29 February 2024

The open house event will allow the community to speak directly with the team behind the project and learn about the following stages of the construction program.

When: Tuesday 12 March 2024

Where: Halls Head Bowling and Recreation Club, 3 Sticks Boulevard, Erskine

Time: Drop in anytime between 3.30pm and 6.30pm

Dust and Vibration

You may feel minor vibrations from construction activities if you live near our works. Experiencing vibration does not mean structural damage to a property will occur.

The team are very conscious of the impact of dust generated by the project's construction on the neighbouring residents and continues their dust mitigation strategies to reduce this impact. We have also experienced a lot of dry and windy days in the past few weeks that may have exacerbated the conditions.

In mid-February, a dust suppression agent was applied, effectively reducing excessive dust if left undisturbed. Although dust can be a nuisance, specific requirements must be complied with for community health.  The limits set for this project will ensure no risk to human or environmental health.

If our air quality monitors indicate a high reading for more than two consecutive hours at any time of day, our Environment Team is immediately alerted by an automatic alarm. If an exceedance occurs, the Environment Team works with the Construction Team to manage the dust and implement strategies to reduce the dust levels.

A fact sheet on dust is available from Main Roads website www.mainroads.wa.gov.au/mebd.

Median removal and lane closures

Soon, work on Mandurah Road to remove the median strips, enabling temporary crossovers to be built. To undertake these works safely, we will need to close traffic lanes. We’ll launch the work at night to reduce the impact on road users. It will take approximately two weeks.

We appreciate that this will impact evening traffic and be noisy for some surrounding residents. All works undertaken at night will have strict noise and vibration management requirements, and we will have traffic control in place to manage traffic flows.

We apologise for the inconvenience. Where possible, the noisiest activities will be scheduled to occur earlier at night.  All out-of-hours work is subject to approval by the City of Mandurah, and noise will be monitored on-site to minimise the impact.

 Waterside Drive

  • Ongoing geotechnical testing, noise modelling vegetation and topsoil clearing.
  • The team has mobilised to the site office in the project compound area under the existing bridge on the eastern side. Residents are reminded there may be an increase in light vehicles on local streets in the area, and the team is committed to respecting the community and driving to local road conditions.

Waterlily Drive

  • Fill material is being imported and placed along the upper embankment of the Waterlily Drive side of the bridge. This enables the construction of the precast concrete casting bed used to build the new bridge. During drilling works, noise and vibrations may be experienced to install settlement monitoring equipment sensors.
  • Infill and construction of marine-based working pads will continue as part of some reclamation works on the eastern and western estuary foreshores near the compound area.
  • There is ongoing geotechnical testing, noise modelling, vegetation and topsoil clearing.
  • Underground service locating.

Seahawk Drive

  • Topsoil strip, clean up and ground preparation will continue along cleared areas.
  • There may be noise and vibrations with drilling to install settlement monitoring equipment sensors.
  • Underground service locating and traffic control measures will continue.

Leisure Way/Egret Point Road area

  • Topsoil strip, clean up, and ground preparation along the cleared area will continue.

There will be ongoing geotechnical testing, noise modelling vegetation and topsoil clearing

Truck access to Calypso Reserve Park, Halls Head

The Project is embedding a high level of sustainable practice into its design and construction based on industry-leading standards. As part of this commitment, we are using recycled water viable for construction purposes.

We do not anticipate disruption to traffic movements or residents but advise that water trucks will be active daily to access the recycled water boreholes within the Halls Head Water Resource Recovery Plant (WRRP) and return them to the project site. This activity will continue intermittently until March 2026

Noise wall extension and additional clearing

As we complete the 85 per cent design stage, we will highlight the extent and heights of the noise walls currently within the project and will be built along Mandurah Road.

We are working towards accelerating the construction phase of the noise walls as part of our programming as a priority in response to privacy concerns already expressed.

Should there be additional noise walls, preparation of earthworks and future clearing will be required in all areas.

Western Power

We understand that Western Power will be undertaking its work as part of its program to upgrade existing infrastructure to reinforce its power network along the entire length of Mandurah Road. This is unrelated to the Mandurah Estuary Bridge Duplication Project.

Future works preparation

All four quadrants of the project are being prepared for future works, including preparatory works for a third traffic lane to be constructed when needed, as well as embankment and drainage specifications for the project.

When the current road layout is realigned in the coming months, the speed limit will be reduced to 60km/hr for the project's duration.
