On Monday, 15 January, the project launched a barge carrying a cone penetration testing (CPT) rig into the estuary from the Mariners Cove boat ramp.

The testing is required to understand the soil properties below the estuary floor to assist with the detailed design of the piles supporting the new bridge.

While the barge was being launched, access to the boat ramp was open. However, space was restricted. You may have seen the rig in the estuary, where testing was done in areas on the south side of the current bridge. The operators ceased work if dolphins come close to the barge.

When the barge is removed, the space in the carpark and boat ramp will be restricted again but available for use.

Visual management boards will be at the boat ramp on the days that the barge is launched and collected. Noise will be minimal during this process.
